£1.6 billion policing budget

The Scottish Police Authority set the 2025-26 budget for policing at the Board meeting on 27 March 2025.

Before approving the budget, the Authority's Board questioned the Chief Constable, the Director of Forensic Services and the Authority's Chief Executive and Accountable Officer, about the allocations for the year ahead.

Members sought assurance about the implications of the budget on services and the workforce which will support a policing workforce with circa 16,500 police officers and an average of 5,900 staff FTE.

This revenue spending (£1,480.6 million) is made up of:

  • £1,427.7 million to Police Scotland (96.4%)
  • £47.4 million to SPA Forensic Services (3.2%)
  • £5.5 million to SPA Corporate (0.4%)
