Trauma-Informed Policing in Scotland

In 2022, the Scottish Government published The Vision for Justice in Scotland. It outlines the Scottish Government’s commitment that all stages of the criminal justice system in Scotland fairly serve the people of Scotland.

The Vision describes the aim of creating “A modern person-centred and trauma-informed approach to justice in which everyone can have trust in the criminal justice system.” This approach encompasses victims of crime, those accused of crime, and the wider population who have contact with the justice system.

Trauma-informed principles within policing ensure that individuals are treated with compassion, safeguarded from further harm, and supported in their recovery through positive interactions within the criminal justice system.
