Trauma-Informed Approaches across the Scottish Public Sector
Many public bodies across the U.K. have made the commitment to adopt trauma-informed approaches to
support individuals affected by forms of trauma. This includes:
- Providing clear definitions and understanding of trauma amongst professionals.
- Organisations in Scotland signing the Leadership Pledge of Support for ongoing commitments to embed
trauma-informed principles and practice to support anyone affected by psychological trauma. - Providing training courses and workshops for members of staff in local councils. Police Scotland have
previously attended East Dunbartonshire ACEs and Trauma Collaborative (EDATC) workshops on lived
experience of utilising trauma-informed approaches in the frontline of public services. - Compiling trauma-informed practice training resources and implementing programmes to develop and embed trauma-informed practice.
NHS Education for Scotland currently deliver the National Trauma Transformation Programme (NTTP) with partners across Scotland. It provides a wide range of learning resources, guidance and implementation support for all sectors of the workforce and aims to create a trauma-informed and responsive workforce which recognises where people are affected by trauma.
The Trauma Informed Justice: Knowledge and Skills Framework provides a more justice system focused resource alongside this.
