Vetting and Conduct Regulations
On 9 October 2025 the Scottish Government commenced a 4-week formal consultation which included Police Scotland with regards to the new Vetting and Conduct regulations. Police Scotland are currently in the process of collating a joint response for both consultations to the Scottish Government.
The Scottish Government are looking to introduce the new legislation on 1 April 2026.
Regulations with regards to the ability to consider the conduct of former and retired police officers are not included in these conduct regulations. Separate former officer regulation will be required, and it is anticipated that drafting of said regulations will not be completed by the Scottish Government until September 2026.
