Intention – Operation Seltern
Operation Seltern has brought together a short life working group consisting of relevant personnel from different policing areas and external stakeholders.
From the outset, Forensic Services were clear that all samples obtained through an incremental expansion by PSOS would require to be outsourced for laboratory testing.
Consequently, an arrangement has been made with SPA Forensic Services and Eurofins Laboratories for all samples to be marked as Operation Seltern, listed by FS and sent for testing.
Concerns from NHS partners around increased volume of callouts has been managed through assurances of the scale of the incremental as opposed to a broader roll-out.
The training of officers in Aberdeenshire and Ayrshire has been completed in October 2025. Selected officers will now be provided with drug-wipes for operational use and reduces the requirement of road policing support.
October 2025 will also see the launch of a public communications plan to accompany the expansion. This plan will include media reporting around the dangers of drug driving and the impact that this has to people’s lives.
It is anticipated that the coordinated launch of the incremental expansion of drug-wipes will commence on Friday 24 October 2025.
