Background
Forensic Services operates in a fast paced, dynamic environment where we are increasingly seeing new developments in both technology and science. In a broader context digital and data technologies are advancing more rapidly than any other innovation in history.
Whilst, as part of our new operating model, we have invested in a new role of Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Manager and brought together the specialist scientific knowledge of our Forensic Leads in a new team with the Change & Development capability, the establishment of a fully functioning RDI capability within Forensic Services is not financially viable at this point.
The extensive expertise and field experience of our people, however, leaves Forensic Services best placed to directly influence research agendas.
Through working effectively with academic research and public sector partners we will ensure that the art of the possible is balanced against the delivery of scientifically valid research outcomes which ultimately make a tangible difference to the communities we serve.
Ethical considerations must be paramount to make sure our partners and the public have confidence in the integrity, impartiality and professionalism of Forensic Services as we navigate this complex area.
The RDI Strategy sets out our vision for the role that Forensic Services can play in placing Scotland at the leading edge of innovation in Forensic Science.
