Susan Ure was appointed as temporary Head of Function on 5 January, 2026, for our Analysis capability area. 

Prior to this, Susan was our Operations Crime Manager – Serious Crime (A, D, P and N divisions) and Criminal Toxicology since June 2023, following a brief spell as the temporary Operations Manager for Criminal Toxicology.

Formally Biology Team Manager of the Volume Crime Unit based within Rushton Court Dundee, Susan has over 29 years’ experience working within Forensic Science moving through several organisational changes including joining PFSLD in 1997 prior to transferring to SPSA and latterly SPA.

Susan has held a number of operational and leadership roles within her career starting as a trainee reporting biologist in 1997 gaining authorisation from the Secretary of State for Scotland to provide expert witness testimony and experience of crime scene attendance prior to transitioning into leadership roles and leading the implementation of the Biology Volume Crime Unit where her interest in driving process efficiency flourished.
