Confidence: Geographic Differences
Confidence in the police continued to vary significantly depending on geographic factors.
SIMD
Similar to previous findings, confidence in the police also correlated with neighbourhood deprivation levels (Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation). Residents in the least deprived (SIMD 5) areas were more likely than those in the most deprived (SIMD 1) areas to have high confidence in the police (46%; 35%), while residents of SIMD 1 areas were more likely to have low confidence in the police than those in SIMD 5 areas (23%; 17%).
Parliamentary Region
Confidence in the police varied by Scottish Parliamentary region. Those in the Highlands and Islands region were more likely to have high confidence in the police, particularly compared to those in the Central Scotland region (52%; 33%). Meanwhile, those in Central Scotland were much more likely to rate their confidence as medium compared to those in the Highlands and Islands region (42%; 28%).
