In the terms of section 39 of the Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012, the SPA must prepare the Annual Review of Policing (ARP) as soon as practicable after the end of each reporting year.

The Chief Constable is required to provide, within three months of the end of the reporting year 2025/26, an assessment of the performance of Police Scotland.
