The Scottish Police Authority's Forensic Services and Police Scotland are working together on the draft Biometric Strategy 2025-2030 and we want to hear your views.

This strategy is built on the commitment of Police Scotland and Forensic Services to uphold human rights, ethical oversight and transparency. It sets out how biometric data will be used responsibly to prevent harm, protect people and support safer communities.

Capturing and retaining biometric data - such as DNA, fingerprints and images - is essential for investigating a wide range of crimes, identifying victims and perpetrators and ruling out those not involved in criminal activity, helping to strengthen investigations and public safety.

We welcome your views - respond to the consultation here

The consultation closes on Sunday, 1 March, 2026. This won’t be the last chance you can have your say on future proposals brought forward as part of our implementation of this strategy.

Further details on biometrics and how they are used in policing can be found on the Police Scotland website
