£1.7 billion budget set for policing in 2026/27

The budget allows for officer numbers to be maintained along with circa 5,760 staff.

The Scottish Police Authority has today, Wednesday 25 March 2026, set a £1.7 billion budget for policing in 2026/27.

The total budget is made up of:

  • £1,565m revenue funding;
  • £18.8m reform funding; and
    £87.3m capital funding.

The revenue spending (£1,565 million) is made up of:

  • £1,507 million to Police Scotland (96.3%)
  • 52.1 million to SPA Forensic Services (3.3%)
  • £5.9 million to SPA Corporate (0.4%)

The budget allows officer numbers to be maintained along with circa 5,760 staff FTE.
