Commenting on the proposals ahead of the SPA Board meeting in Dundee next week, Susan Deacon, Chair of the SPA said:
"Increasing the number of officers carrying Tasers and extending the duties of armed response officers are operational issues of significant public interest. I welcome the opportunity to consider and scrutinise them in public at next week's Board meeting.
"Early engagement with a wide range of stakeholders is an essential part of building trust and confidence in policing and in securing the consent of the public for the approach. The Board will seek assurance on Police Scotland's engagement approach next week.
"We would encourage anyone with any comments or concerns to raise them with the SPA via our dedicated Public Voice mailbox ahead of the Board meeting. Issues raised will help inform members scrutiny."
