The SPA has issued a response to PIRC recommendations published this morning relating to the police response in the case of Elizabeth Bowe.
SPA Board member and Deputy Chair, Nicola Marchant has responded saying:
"The SPA sends our sincere sympathy and condolences to the family of Elizabeth Bowe.
"The SPA has sought and received assurances from Police Scotland that lessons have been learned from this tragic incident and that everything possible is being done to avoid a situation like this happening again. Police Scotland has confirmed that the recommendations made by PIRC are being actively implemented and progress will be monitored by the SPA's Policing Committee.
"The SPA will continue to provide governance and oversight of Police Scotland's performance in relation to call handling. Oversight is informed by independent assurance from HMICS and supported by both qualitative and quantitative performance data. Notable incidents are also monitored to ensure lessons are learned from operational incidents and board members continue to complement their oversight with visits to call handling centres across the country providing a comprehensive picture of the overall service performance."
