New Forensic Services committee will look at work underway to develop long-term strategy for the service to complement Policing 2026.

The first meeting of the SPA's new dedicated Forensic Services committee will take place on Tuesday 7 November.

The Board of the SPA approved the creation of the committee in June 2017 to improve scrutiny, visibility and governance of Forensic Services and addresses recommendations made by HMICS in its Inspection of Forensic Services published in late June.

Further steps were taken by the Board in August 2017 to strengthen leadership of forensics with the Director of Forensic Services, Tom Nelson reporting directly into the Board.

The agenda and papers for the committee are available from the SPA's website on the following page: Forensic Services Committee - 7 November 2017

The committee will be Chaired by SPA Board member Iain Whyte and items on the agenda include an update on the work underway to develop a long-term strategy for forensics to complement the 2026 strategy finalised in the summer.
