Statement – Board review of CC Leave of Absence.

Chief Constable, Phil Gormley's temporary leave of absence continued.

The SPA Board has reviewed its prior decision to grant a period of leave of absence requested by the Chief Constable and whether any other measures are necessary. The Board has assessed and agreed that a continuing period of leave remains an appropriate measure to address investigative and welfare issues for all parties involved. SPA has written to the Chief Constable confirming a continuation of his leave of absence, which will be reviewed again by Friday 3 November 2017.

  • The Board of the SPA considered and approved the request from the Chief Constable to take a temporary leave of absence on Friday 8 September 2017.
  • The Board reviewed its decision at a meeting on Wednesday 4 October.
  • The Board of the SPA will keep under review, on a four weekly basis, its decision to approve the Chief Constable’s request for leave.
