Senior Officer Complaint

Police Scotland senior officer complaint determination

In April 2015, the Scottish Police Authority (SPA) received notification from Police Scotland that an anonymous allegation had been made against ACC Wayne Mawson via the confidential internal 'Integrity Matters' reporting mechanism.

Following thorough consideration, and independent investigation by the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC), of the allegation made against ACC Wayne Mawson, the SPA's Complaint and Conduct Committee met in April 2016 and determined that ACC Mawson has no case to answer in respect of misconduct or gross misconduct. The SPA is satisfied that this matter has been appropriately considered and will take no further action.

Although the SPA would not normally offer public comment on specific cases, and with the agreement of ACC Mawson, the SPA felt it appropriate to make this statement due to the officer being named publicly in previous media coverage.

The SPA handles all non-criminal complaints against Scotland's most senior police officers (rank ACC and above). These complaints are processed in line with The Police Service of Scotland (Conduct) (Senior Officers) Regulations 2013.
