SPA response to tragic M9 Incident

ISSUED 13 JULY 2015

Following the tragic incident on the M9 in early July, the SPA has issued the following statement: “The SPA sends our sincere sympathy and condolences to the families of John Yuill and Lamara Bell following their tragic deaths.

“We welcome the investigation by PIRC into the circumstances surrounding this specific incident to find answers which might explain this tragedy.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

On the HMICS investigation and review into Police Scotland call handling, a SPA spokesperson added:

“We fully support the HMICS investigation and review which will look specifically at Police Scotland’s call handling procedures and processes within the Contact, Command and Control centres. The commitment to do this quickly will help to ensure the public can have confidence that the police will be available to answer incidents as and when they arise.”
