The Strategic Co-ordination Unit (SCU) was set up at the end of May 2019 to provide effective coordination between the SPA and Police Scotland and, where necessary, the Scottish Government, to ensure that issues of key strategic importance for the discharge of effective and efficient policing, or those issues which will/are likely to impact on public confidence in policing are addressed transparently and expeditiously.
The unit is led by Assistant Chief Constable Steve Johnson and T/Chief Superintendent Conrad Trickett, who are on secondment from Police Scotland. For the duration of their secondment, the officers will report to the SPA Chair.
The SCU will work in tandem with Police Scotland, the Scottish Government and other key stakeholders, including local authority partners, to plan and coordinate business and to ensure that the appropriate governance, accountability, decision making, communications and stakeholder engagement is in place, not least as Police Scotland works through a significant programme of transformation and change.
